Gulps were taking in large amounts, the rabbit hardly noticing when the snow leopard waded into the river, even spluttering at one point in her haste to drink.
It took nearly a minute or more before the leporid's thirst was quenched, whereupon she sat back on her haunches, long feet edging over the bank's ridge, and ears flicking forward as she stared at the feline, curious as to what her acquaintance was doing.

The leopard was gazing intently into the water.
Fishing? the rabbit wondered.
Perhaps fish were easier for the predator to swallow, rather than mammals that were so similar to her own body.

--Whoa, whoa![!]

Miles away in another river, a fish the size of a crocodile--if not bigger--was taken by surprise when the current took a sudden turn, the water rolling into rapids.
All at once she felt herself falling...the Atlantic sturgeon arced her spine, tail slapping against a cliff, sending her flying through the air--

Oktokki's gaze was drifting.
The cool wind tugged on her whiskers, the sound of sheep baaing and the water flowing casting a calming lull over the scene.
The white rabbit's sides heaved with a heavy sigh as her muscles relaxed, senses taking in her surroundings at their leisure.

It was a good spot to relax, and within moments she found her forelegs stretching forward, the rabbit rolling onto her side.
Cheek fur was pushed into her eye, then back again as she readjusted her head on the ground, silver eyes gazing up

Then there came an untimely splash.

The rabbit's head jerked up without much alarm, expecting to see the leopard having caught a fish.
Instead her eyes were met by a fountain of water as droplets rained down on her, the unexpectedness of it causing her to pop to her feet, waiting for the rain to end before she tried to shake her pelt free of the moisture.

As her eyes cast back to the river, she found herself blinking in surprise at the sight that befell her....

Wherever the sturgeon had landed, it was much narrower and shallower than the river she had come from.
The fish's gills fluttered, the scutes on her sides on full display as she wriggled in the mud, more than halfway exposed in the shallows.
Muddied water swirled around her, and all the world was a blur to eyes evolved for seeing underwater.

A powerful tail slapped yet more water into the air as she began to try jumping and wriggling her way into deeper water.

"Wow!" the rabbit gasped, amazed by the sheer mass of the fish.
She pulled herself along the riverside, coming closer to it--but not too much...that tail looked like it could be mighty dangerous, shedding mounds of debris as it slammed into the banks.
"I bet that thing could feed a pack of BEARS."
But where in the world had it come from?
The river didn't look nearly big enough to support it.

Jinora

There wasn't much to see, just fast moving water. It tugged at the snow leopard's fur, in a way that was both mildly inviting and laying bare the danger of getting caught in the current. Shallow as it might be, the texture of the bottom hinted at uneven ground further out. That's where the larger fish would be, if they were present at all.

Maybe she'd have more luck if she headed towards the massive lake in the distance. It could support larger aquatic lifeforms more consistently, and might have slower currents, ones that she could better swim in. With that resignation, the snow leopard was soon about to give up at this spot.

but the faster rapids from upriver brought on a surprise. Jinora turned and there was a giant fish, which no way no how could have grown in the small mountain rivers. It was absolutely massive, to big for these waters. It offered a perfect opportunity.

Instinct took over now that she had an option that fit with her will. Her body sprung. Her paws moved. She closed in to kill it quickly. So close so close.... Her claws in the fish....

but...

the rabbit was there...

She stopped herself.

She did not wish to kill in front of a friend whatever she did.

Yes it really could feed a pack of bears...but....if she killed it... it would be more than she could eat...

She stepped away from the fish, and with forced resignation, stuck her nose under it's side, trying to push it towards the deeper part of the river.

Oktokki scratched an ear as the leopard went around one side to the fish and began to push on it.

The fish didn't seem to take all too kindly to it, and, having must have thought that it was under attack, swung out with its tail--or, at least, it tried to.
Being on its belly and half-sunk into the silt of the river, the fish didn't have much room to mount a defense.

It continued to wriggle, and, slowly (whether the leopard had any effect on the giant fish was really hard to tell), the fish found a ledge, and was able to push off, disappearing into slightly deeper water.
The strange sharp scales atop its spine stuck out of the surface as it swam along, but, eventually, they, too, vanished.

Without comment the rabbit rolled her head, falling backwards into the grass.
Her leg twitched, and it was only for a few seconds that she stared up at the sky before bouncing back to her feet.

"I'm gonna check out that beach!" she announced to her companion, twisting around to speed off that way.
Why WOULDN'T she head for the most interesting (or, rather, in this case perplexing) part of the land first?
Time to find out just what sort of lake it was!

Jinora

The snow leopard sighed. There went the fish back into the depths of the river.

She really was too nice for her own good sometimes.

At least the rabbit was off exploring the shore.

Jinora stepped backwards, and intentionally set off in a different direction. She made the touch decision that she would catch up later. She wouldn't try to only cross paths again until after she'd found something meaty to eat that could address her predatory craving, and maybe not leave her riddled with guilt. She convinced herself that it would be safer for the both of them this way.
