The weasel waved a paw at the worm, saying "gititgititgitit" and the alien done did got it.
It rolled over, watching as the stranger curled up in the hole, and stole a glance around and then towards the pile of sticks--or whatever it was--that the critter had been using before.
Slowly it crawled closer, staring, though the second it was looked at the weasel crawled backwards and away, looking in a different direction.

Maybe it should go with the better bet, just stave off its impatience and wait...biting its tongue, the weasel elected to stare at the sky while hoping that the stranger would drift off soon.

Shiren

It was still damp. It was still uncomfortable. She seriously rather be trying to sleep in a nest of her own making, all with warm blankets and stuffed animals to keep her safe, but nooo, she had to make due with a hole in the earth and her own body heat. At least there was a little, a very wee little bit of thermal radiation. It wasn't much help. She'd have to find a new place when.... when she could.

She found herself in a ruined stone building, covered with moss, and saplings and vines while the roof was exposed to the sky. She was chasing a bird which did not fly, and looked like a fruit, a bit like a lemon in fact. hmmm! This was perfect. She could even detect the sound of friends just out of sight, probably on the other side of one of those ruined walls. This dreamscape felt homey.

Waitiing...after a while the weasel felt a jerk, and like magic (which it totally wasn't) its body shifted like blurred television, then vanished entirely.
The body it had been bound to disappeared like mist, and, even while lost in someone else's dream, it was far better than the latter.
An hour longer and--well, it loathed to think all the things that coulda happened....

The number sat back silently for a moment, observing this new location.
It was nice, it supposed.
Sweet.
Peaceful even.

It could tell that this was a dream of the critter's making.
It drilled a minute hole into the fade, finding itself an easy way out--or a back-up, should the beast startle awake for some reason.
It had no intentions of leaving the worlds of dreaming so soon again.

Then its gazed was curled by the act of motion, eyes turning on the beast frolicking like deer in a meadow, chasing after some mix of bat and lemon.
Watching silently, the number conjured an illusion--then stopped short, the malformed attempt flickering out in a quiet pop of static.

What was it doing, it wondered, practically out of the blue.
It shouldn't try messing with personal, private dreams--that was just...wrong.

Out of sight, the number sagged, and should the alien weasel pass close enough, it was possible that a bit of its sadness could rub off on the stranger.

This was no good.
Falling back to old habits again and again.
Breaking hearts, spirits, ruining lives or minds, stealing sleep and sound.
This was why it couldn't return to reality: it was only able to keep on the straight and narrow while beside the nonexistent.
Barely even then.

It was so sure--

The number vanished back into the blue nowhere, leaving behind only a fading air of farewell as it disappeared.
What was lost never remained....

Shiren

Sensing something off, Shiren paused from her chase, eyes focused, and ears flicking towards the direction of the unidentifiable as her senses reached out for whatever it was. Unfortunately she saw nothing. Not a thing was out of place nor weird enough to give any significant note.

So she stared into the backdrop of the fabric of the dream, sensing only an emotion which she could almost physically touch.

It was a strange familiar feeling... one she knew far too well. If she could give it a name it was... the feeling of goodbye.

"chau chau...." she called, her pitches almost the same as those from a doorbell, D# then B one for each word, though each was slower and more drawn out.

She wasn't sure what she was supposed to be feeling goodbye about, but the feeling brought up memories which were so old she'd practically forgotten them because of the losses related to them.

Whatever was gone this time... probably wasn't coming back too.

If only she could pinpoint what is was.

Birdlemon forgotten, the child wandered off into what was going to become a very fitful sleep.
