Brush of wind on treetops

With a sigh, the young dragon put her books from the library back on the re-shelving shelf for the dutiful automatron librarians to take care of. No more reading for today, not in this dim dusty catacomb of tomes and scrolls.

Her own personal notes went into her bag and that into the magical pocket-space she maintained for transporting most of her stuff.

It was time to head out.

Isles of books. opened up to the grand staircase to floor 1 which eventually lead her out to the beautiful arched doors of the Akuzeth public library, and onto the wide crowded streets of the city.

It was a sea of beings of all colors and sizes. Three foot, or shorter rodent kind wove in and out among the legs of beings ranging from human sized, to the size of houses. All of them were going in different directions. Brush carefully wove her way into a side street where the city crowds were less dense. From there she knew her way.

It was a joy to finally pass through the city's massive gates and out onto the open plains beyond the city.

She broke into a jog, and then a run. The crisp clean air of the cold season felt awesome against her thin fur and scales.

She didn't care too much where she was going from here. The wild potential of the road was grabbing her. Give her a few hours running and she could end up at potentially anyplace in western Eokia.

She was eager to see where she might end up.

Brush of wind on treetops

Several hours at a full fledged sprint, and the terrain had changed significantly enough that the slender dragoness slowed her pace to look around. She had ended up in a rocky area carved by the wind and rain. The terrain was steadily sloping. In some places it was rather steep Running through this could have become dangerous if she had gone at a full pace, but it looked like a fun place to go cliff dodging sometime.

Another time.

For the moment the iridescent female was more interested in appreciating the beauty of the place. The smooth, multi-colored boulders of twisted rock jotted up off the increasingly deep canyon walls. Some of them were polished to a mirror-like sheen. others were laced with gemstones like agate, and other configurations of quarts. The sun at its current angle caused the stone to cast many shadows, making the place stuck in darkness despite the fact that it was not yet beyond mid-day.

"ohhh. this is gorgeous." Brush observed in a near wispier.

As she wandered, she was increasingly gaining the sense that this location might be sacred.

A lean man wearing a rough deerskin cloak and skin traced with labyrinthine tattoos stepped lightly atop the cliffs.
Ahote stared around at the familiarly strange terrain, careful not to touch the walls that fell and rose around him, beautiful as they were with a glossy sheen like crow feathers.
He would have loved to take some of those minerals and weave them into cloths or poke them into clay, but not only were they were buried in walls he could not easily reach, but the closer he drew to the canyons, the more his skin began to itch.

He still liked to toe the edge, though, weaving back and forth between distance and proximity just to gaze down into the depths.
On one such occasion he caught sight of a familiar figure, that blue-and-white animal that he'd once stuck with an arrow.

Well, assuming it was the same one; the patterns and shapes were hard to miss, but it would be easy for this to be a typical morph for whatever species it was.

After a moment of watching it move, Ahote decided to call down to it, assured of his position so high up on the clifftop.
"¡Hola!"
His voice bounced off the walls into a fading echo.

| RINYU NILAM |

Nearby a particularly beautiful set of canyons filled with exposed, polished minerals, yet another dragon was lurking about... relatively speaking, at least! Given her species' proclivity for flight, walking about on the floor was practically sneaking about! Even so, Rinyu was a little frightened at the idea of being seen by anyone and everyone in this strange land by flying in the sky. Again, 'strange' only relatively speaking! Rinyu had only been to Eokia proper a few times, though she had been making a real effort to travel here more often! It was so rich in magic and other creatures like her!

Mostly like her, at least. Some people may have found it odd to see a dragon wearing what largely amounted to sandals, designed for her feet specifically. The sandals on her forehands were particularly special - they had straps that let her slide the sandals up onto her 'wrists,' for when she had to actually use her forehands for something other than walking. She also had a black vest wrapped around her body where her arms were and shorts around her legs, with a variety of packs hooked up to them. Dressed like this, the black-and-white dragon was walking along the bottom of the ravine, looking wide-eyed to all of the gems in the area.

She would've loved to take several samples to study and a few more to add to the Reverie Vault back home, but she didn't want to do so until she was certain this was not someone else's territory. Rinyu was no thief, after all! As it so happened, Rinyu was at the opposite end of the ravine that Brush was in, walking towards the other dragon. Given time, Brush and Rinyu traversed enough distance to to actually see one another - especially given how colorful Brush was. Rinyu had some vibrant greens on her fur, but the other dragon that caught the inventor's eye was more brightly colored, as if the other dragon fit right in alongside all the other pretty crystals! Rinyu took on a friendly approach as she called out to the other dragon, "Hello! I'm-" however, Rinyu cut herself off when she heard someone yell from above. Feeling less secure without the pistol she had come to rely on, Rinyu immediately yelped and jumped back, looking about in a near panic for the source of the voice!

Shen Qiedao

It was just another day for an average magical vampire. Shen and her loyal sword Sidestick were now crossing a large valley, riding fast on Shen's hover bike. "All right!" Shen screamed out as she sped up, swerving and dashing through the corners of the hills, barely managing to fall off.

"Should you really be going so fast!" her sword screamed from her waist, vibrating in fear at the girl's antics.

"Damn right! that's the only way I'll get to see what this thing is made of!" Shen replied. The two had set off from Sonlas a few weeks back in search of Shen's old master, Eve. Unfortunately, their search had been fruitless as of yet, which is why the two were now making their way back to Sonlas. Of course, Shen decided she might as well give her newest hoverbike a whirl.

She looked around as they crossed the valley, staring in awe at all the gemstones that stuck out from the walls and floor, shining brightly with the light from the sun. "That being said, this place is really pretty," the woman pointed out. Then an idea popped into her head. "I know what we can do,"she grinned, immediately stopping the bike.

"What are you planning, girl?" Sidestick asked hesitantly.

"These stones must be worth something right?" Shen asked, kneeling down to grab a loose piece of gemstone. "Maybe if we sell them we could get some more money,"she suggested, grinning widely at her sword.

"...and how, pray tell, do you hope to extract them?"

"Well...I have my strenght," Shen started talking, her hand going for Sidestick's handle. "And I have you."

"Huh...wait no!" Sidestick yelled out. It was too late however, and soon the sound Shen slamming her sword down on the rocks and the boom that followed from them crumbling away began echoing through the valley.

Brush of wind on treetops

Slender ears traced the echos off the walls, honing in on the true source of the sound off the multiple which the canyon wove out of one.

Two actually. Two different threads of greeting caught the dragon's ears in the end, one closer feminine voice inside the canyon just as she was, and one masculine one further up above the steep walls of the ravine.

The closest was a dragon much like herself, in shape and size, but wearing clothes among other traits. This was the one of closest concern, as she clearly was alarmed.

"Easy friend, its not dangerous, just a man up higher on the rocks." she encouraged, tilting her head so that she'd be able to see him better around the spiraling canyon walls.

"Hello there! would you like me to bring you down?" The pearly dragon called, throwing her voice in such a way as to minimize the amount of echo it gave off for its volume.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shen would find the rocks difficult to break off. Having been weathered from time and the elements to be fairly hard, the structure of these was not conducive for being cut by sword. A pickaxe or other tool would have been better, lest weapon end up marred in the process of extracting the gems from the stone. Unfortunately her work did not go unnoticed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

An ominous rumble came from the rocks, echoing through the canyon, and vibrating off the glassy surfaces into a deep note which could be heard from anywhere in the canyon. For anyone with even a little superstition, it sounded alive, while anyone with the slightest spiritual sense would definitely feel like whatever presence belonged here was beginning to stir.

Brush froze but for her eyes and ears, both of which moved around as she tried to sense out what was going on in the canyon.

Something was wrong.

His eyes trailed across the bottom of the ravine, watching as a second of such beasts made an appearance, this one much darker in coloration.
He didn't have a chance to respond, only a brief few seconds to reflect on the words.

Then the man's heart gave a start, gaze ripped from the bottom far below.
Something loud was banging across the air, and just after that he could fill a ripple of electricity streak across his skin like goosebumps.
Pebbles bounced across the dusty soil as the ground vibrated, a deep rumbling filling the canyon walls.

"¡Mierda!" he hissed, senses shooting up as he garnered the idea that something big was about to burst out from the earth.
He didn't know much know where to run, however, as the whole thing seemed to be all around them; instead his eyes kept a close watch for the least bit of movement, any sign of even remote hostility.

Shen Qiedao

"Huh, what's that noise?" Shen said curiously once she started hearing loud rumbling throughout the mountain. It didn't take her long to realize that said rumbling was, inexplicably tied to the floor. The girl leaped back, shocked by this discovery as Sidestick himself began vibrating.

"I think your little act of selfishness just upset this place," the sword replied, his voice shaking as he spoke.

Shen raised her eyebrow at his statement, how could the mountain have any sort of reaction to what she was doing? Nevertheless the fact that the shaking was becoming more pronounced was starting to worry her. "Okay then, what should we do?" she asked, slightly worried.

"Get away from here as fast as you can," Sidestick warned.

Brush of wind on treetops

The hum and light of magic traced around the rocks. It was not very visible to the common eye except for the fact that it set the gemstones embedded into the smooth walls aglow. with visible light.

In the limited natural light of the canyon, the streaks of crystal stood out against the less translucent minerals, creating something that would be beautiful if not for the rumbling of the earth.

The rocks were shifting.

If shen wanted to grab her magi-tech bike, she'd have to do so now. Already the terrain where she'd left it was not the same as it had been moments before. The rocks were closing in on the machine. Already the way behind the bike was closed off, making it impossible to get out of the canyon the same way that she'd come.

Brush's eyes continued to move frantically, tracking the anger of the earth. "Let's go!" she warned her fellow dragon, already taking a leap into the air. The canyon walls were tall enough and twisted enough that she could not clear the distance in one flying bound, but careful flying should do it. Of course she would not leave Rinyu behind. Brush did not know how dangerous the ravine might get.

Though the earth was unstable above the canyon too, the traveler at the top had a slight advantage If he watched he'd actually be able to see the rocks moving. They didn't break or crack but slowly shifted like some thick liquid or clay, even though the earth was quite solid to the touch. The streaks and spirals of various minerals widened or thinned according to their movement, and never grew jagged, maintaining the wind-carved look of the stone.

Ahote's thoughts shifted from a relic colossus to earthquakes and volcanoes as he watched the land churn, the canyons upending themselves, floors rising, falling, walls closing in.
He half-expected geysers to pop up, shooting lava into the air, and for cracks to start spreading through the ground, rocks collapsing all over the place, although the moving land remained surprisingly slow and smooth.
The walls beneath him shone with light from the crystals within, colored rays creating a kaleidoscope as they laced the shadowy air inside the ravine, the whorls of their patterns shifting with the earth.

One of the animals below had taken to the air, the other he didn't have a chance to see what it did.
Ahote was already backpedaling away from the edge, afraid it might crumble, just as a beam of light reflected off one gem to another and then crossed over onto one of his arms, causing the tattoos they touched to glow as they absorbed the color, hissing with a sound like raw bacon dropped in a pan of boiling grease, and the man shouted in pain, stepping away from the ray as he examined the arm for burns.

Welts were popping up along the affected tattoos, leaving a harsh sensation.

He lowered the arm, muscles tense as he tried to keep it stiff, and moved further away from the edge just in case the land decided to go completely haywire.
He watched the canyons as they continued to heave and shudder, as though the earth itself was taking deep breaths.
